Schur polynomials form a special kind of additive basis of the ring of symmetric polynomials. In this talk I will present some results about Schur polynomials, including formulae of Pieri's, Giambelli's and Jacobi-Trudi's, and the Knuth correspondence which leads to a combinatorial description of Schur polynomials.
