Abstract:

The goal of this instructional activity to promote regional research in Arithmetic Geometry. The topics in this summer school are fully focusing on the geometry of PEL-type Shimura varieties in positive characteristic. The geometry of certain subvarieties provide rich information which is useful in managing Galois representations and arithmetic. Moreover, this summer school may also serve as some background for the workshop held in the next week.

Topics:

(1) Geometry of Newton Strata (5 lectures)
(2) Local Models (5 lectures)
(3) Ekedahl-Oort Strata (5 lectures)
(4) Kottwitz-Rapoport Strata (3 lectures)
