Abstract:
This talk will be a survey of the Steklov eigenvalue problem and the related topic of free boundary minimal surfaces. There has been a great deal of progress both on the pure eigenvalue side and also on the minimal surface side in the past five years. We will describe the extremal problem which relates these subjects and its current status as well.
