The National Center of Theoretical Sciences Mathematics Division (NCTS) is pleased to announce that Prof. Cheng-Chiang Tsai of Academia Sinica is a recipient of the 2024 Wu Ta-You Memorial Award of the National Council of Science and Technology.
The research area of Prof. Tsai is representation theory of p-adic groups with tools from geometry and harmonic analysis. His main breakthrough is a disproof of a long-believed folklore conjecture in the harmonic analysis on p-adic groups that the geometric wavefront set of an irreducible representation is contained in a unique nilpotent orbit. This fundamental work changes our perspective on the nature of irreducible characters on p-adic groups.
Prof. Tsai has received the NCTS Young Theoretical Scientist Award in 2023 and is also a committee member of the NCTS program Number theory and representation theory. The NCTS wishes to take this opportunity to congratulate him again on his achievements.
