The NCTS Mathematics Division is pleased to announce that Professor Horng-Tzer Yau, the Merton Professor of Mathematics at Harvard University, has been awarded the 2026 Leroy P. Steele Prize for Seminal Contribution to Research by the American Mathematical Society (AMS). Prof. Yau has been an NCTS Distinguished Scholar since 2015 and joined the NCTS International Advisory Committee in 2016.
The Leroy P. Steele Prize, shared with László ErdÅ‘s and Benjamin Schlein, recognizes their groundbreaking series of papers that led to a full understanding of fine spectral properties for random matrix ensembles. Their breakthrough work overcame technical difficulties in analyzing eigenvalues deep within the spectrum, providing fruitful techniques for studying sparse random graphs and related objects.
The NCTS wishes to take this opportunity to congratulate Prof. Yau again on his achievements.
