NCTS Call for Applications: 2027 SLMath Summer Graduate School

The Mathematics Division of the National Center for Theoretical Sciences (NCTS) is pleased to invite applications from full-time students enrolled at a university or research institution in Taiwan who wish to attend a 2027 Summer Graduate School organized by the Simons Laufer Mathematical Sciences Institute (SLMath), formerly the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI).

SLMath is one of the world’s leading mathematical research institutes. Each year, it organizes many high-quality conferences, workshops, and summer and winter schools. NCTS is a full-level academic sponsor of SLMath. As such, students nominated by NCTS may receive full local support from SLMath, as well as travel support of up to USD 700. NCTS will cover any remaining travel expenses for these students.

The 2027 Summer Graduate School program currently contains 11 summer schools hosted by SLMath  in  Berkeley  or  SLMath  affiliated  institutions  around  the  world.  For  the most up-to-date information and details about the 2027 Summer Graduate School can be found at this link: 2027 SLMath SGS

Students wishing to apply to any of these schools should submit the following materials to NCTS by Nov. 5, 2026.

•Curriculum vitae
•Academic transcripts
•A letter stating which school the applicant wishes to attend. The letter should also explain more about the applicant’s academic background and indicate the applicant’s expectation of academic benefits from attending this school and describe plans for future academic research.
•List of two references of faculty members (with names, affiliations and email addresses) familiar with the applicant’s scholastic achievements.

All application materials should be sent to apply2@ncts.tw

The SLMath/MSRI aims to promote diversity among its summer school participants. Therefore, the NCTS especially encourages applications by qualified female students.

To inspire and inform prospective students, an experience-sharing session by participants of the 2026 Summer Schools and the hybrid special event, “Gateway to the World – Student Presentations after Academic Visits Abroad,” will be held. Detailed schedules and event information will be announced on the NCTS website soon. Interested students are encouraged to check the website regularly for updates.
