Nicolau Aiex is a postdoctoral fellow at NTNU and postdoctoral affiliate of NCTS. His mentor is Professor Ulrich Menne. He is currently Principal investigator of a research project funded by NSTC between 2023 and 2025.

Nicolau received his PhD from Imperial College London under supervision of Professor André Neves.Since then he had postdoctoral positions at University of Toronto, University of British Columbia and a temporary professor position at University of Auckland. His research is in geometric analysis and geometric measure theory. More specifically studying minimal submanifolds, its singularities and variational properties. Most of the motivation comes from Almgren-Pitts min-max theory for minimal hypersurfaces. He is currently interested in the existence of singular objects arising from variational problems as well as the geometric flows derived from the corresponding functional.

Some of his recent works also involve the analysis of singularities using the theory of weakly differentiable functions on varifolds.
