Abstract

We will introduce the Wigner matrices (ensembles) and their generalizations. Wigner observed that the empirical distribution of these matrices converges (weakly) to the so called (Wigner) semicircle law. We will discuss two ways (moment method and resolvent method) to derive the semicircle law, may or may not in detail.
