Modeling and Analysis of Infectious Diseases
Ying-Hen Hsieh (China Medical University)
Abstract:
In this talk, I will give an overview of mathematical modeling and analysis of infectious diseases. Examples on applications of mathematical modeling and its fundamental concepts will be given. Some simple but useful mathematical models will be introduced. Historical developments on compartmental models, starting with Daniel Bernoulli’s smallpox model in 1760 up to recent newly emerging avian influenza H7N9, will be discussed. Finally, some remarks on future of mathematical modeling will also be provided.
