We consider the pressureless Euler-Poisson system which describes the dynamics of cold ions in an electrostatic plasma. We present a new condition on the initial data, under which the velocity gradient blows up in a finite time. In particular, formation of singularities may occur even if the initial velocity is identically zero. This is joint with J.Choi and B.Kwon (UNIST).
