Biratonal Automorphism Groups of Algebraic Varieties

Abstract:
I will survey various results on the structure of finite groups acting by automorphisms and birational automorphisms of algebraic varieties in characteristic zero. The main focus will be on the boundedness properties of such groups, including the so-called Jordan property. If time permits, I will explain how (some of) these results generalize to the case of varieties over fields of positive characteristic.
