A traceability project for coffee from various regions in the Philippines is being carried out by De La Salle University researchers, funded by the Department of Science and Technology, and in collaboration with the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute. Stable isotope analysis and Multi-elemental profiling using isotope ratio mass spectrometry and x-ray fluorescence, respectively, are employed to generate chemical fingerprints for geographic identification. However, are these enough to define Philippine Coffee? In this fireside chat, we will discuss the implications of this project and how this new information may further be enriched.
