On Pattern Dynamics in Mass-conserved Reaction-diffusion Compartment Model
Tsubasa Sukekawa (Kyoto University)

Abstract

In a mass-conserved reaction-diffusion system, we can observe by numerical simulations that transient dynamics such as stripe patterns converge to spatially monotone patterns. To understand the dynamics theoretically, we introduce a reaction-diffusion compartment model. This model equation is defined on multiple regions (compartments), and each compartment is connected by diffusive coupling.

In this study, we analyze linearized eigenvalue problems for N-mode stationary solutions for the compartment model. This problem is designed to understand the dynamics near the stripe patterns. This talk mainly shows results for the case N=2 and common properties with previous studies.

On the other hand, the compartment model also shows dynamics not observed in the original mass-conserved reaction-diffusion system by changing a parameter in diffusive coupling. This implies that the compartment model produces more various dynamics than the original system. (This talk is based on joint research with Prof. Shin-Ichiro Ei in Hokkaido University)
