On Binary Stars: Existence and Stability
Jinmyoung Seok (Seoul National University)

Abstract
Binary star systems consist of two stars gravitationally bound to each other. Gaseous stars are usually modelled as solutions of Euler-Poisson equations. For example, a non-rotating star is realized as a variational minimizer of Hamiltonian functional of the Euler-Poisson equations under a given mass.  In this talk, I would like to discuss about the existence and stabilities of binary stars. I will introduce an appropriate variational formulation for binary stars, which implies the existence and nonlinear stability of them.
