Dynamics of Tree Populations in a Context of Climate Change
Gael Raoul (Centre national de la recherche scientifique)

Abstract
We introduce a mathematical model describing a population structured by a phenotypic trait and a spatial variable. The model is then a parabolic PDE with a non-local competition term. The climate change appears as a shift of an optimal phenotypic time. To survive, the population has to follow this optimal trait, either through migration of thanks to evolution. We investigate the consequences of this models in the case of heterogeneous environments: effect of a mountain for instance. We then discuss the effect of an age structure in such structured population models. Finally, we consider a more detailed model for a population without spatial structure, to investigate the effect of phenological traits (date of flowering, for instance) and plasticity.
