Delayed Self-regulation as a Prey-predator Phenomenon
Alejandro López-Nieto (National Taiwan University)

Abstract
The Hutchinson delayed logistic equation

is a model for intrinsic stable oscillations in the density of a rodent population. The key observation is that younger females fight older, less fertile individuals for limited resources. Similar delayed self-regulation effects induce oscillations in examples ranging from control theory to molecular biology. In this talk, I will describe the geometric structure of the set of periodic solutions in the more general class of equations with negative delayed feedback

In particular, I will show that all periodic orbits lie on an open annulus on which the variables obey planar prey-predator dynamics.
