Stable Vortex Dipoles Touching the Symmetry Axis in 2D Euler Flows: Sadovskii Vortex
Kwan Woo (Seoul National University)

Abstract
In this talk, we discuss traveling wave solutions to the two-dimensional incompressible Euler equations that take the form of counter-rotating vortex dipoles touching the symmetry axis. These include classical structures such as the Sadovskii vortex patch and the Chaplygin–Lamb dipole. Within a variational framework, we establish the existence and nonlinear orbital stability of such dipoles using a concentration-compactness method. Our construction yields a broad family of Sadovskii-type vortices that generalize known structures and contribute to a better understanding of coherent vortex dipoles. This is joint work with Kyudong Choi (UNIST) and Young-Jin Sim (UNIST).
