Brakke's Moving Varifolds
Myles Workman (National Taiwan Normal University)
Abstract
In this talk I will introduce some basic objects from geometric measure theory (rectifiable sets and varifolds), and then introduce the Brakke flow. This is a weak, measure theoretic version of the mean curvature flow, which allows for singularities. As such the flow has many applications in the study of the smooth mean curvature flow, as well as the study of grain boundaries. The goal of this talk will be to introduce these objects, and the study of the Brakke flow, in a way that is accessible to all.
