A Short Introduction to the Non Cut-Off Boltzmann Equation (II)
Shota Sakamoto (Kyushu University)
Abstract
It is well-known that the collision integral operator of the Boltzmann equation has a non-integrable singularity over the sphere. One way to divert this difficulty is to assume that the collision kernel is cut-off near the singularity, in particular, for the problem around equilibria, Grad's angular cut-off is quite widely used. This method has been regarded as essential and standard, however, the analysis of the equation without this assumption has also progressed for decades, which highlights the different nature of the equation for each case. In this lecture, the speaker will provide a very brief introduction to this topic, with emphasis on the smoothing effect of the equation.
