Abstract: The dynamical phase transitions will be discussed. Attention will be paid to the so called P-HAN transition, which is the transition from the unidirectional phase to the hybrid aligned nematic phase. The thickness threshold is explicitly found, below which the unidirectional phase is stable. Above the thickness threshold, the liquid crystals prefer a new equilibrium state. The results rigorously justify the P-HAN transition observed in experiments and numerical studies.
