Orbital Stability of Dark Solitons for the Intermediate Nonlinear Schrodinger Equation in a Shallow Water Regime

Abstract
The intermediate nonlinear Schrodinger equation (INLS) describes the long-term dynamics of the envelope of weakly nonlinear internal waves in a stratified fluid of finite depth. Moreover, the shallow water limit of INLS is the defocusing nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLS) and INLS has dark soliton solutions as well as NLS.
In this talk, I will present a result regarding the orbital stability of dark solitons for INLS. In particular, I will show that in a shallow water regime, dark solitons for INLS whose propagation speeds are inversely proportional to the depth are orbitally stable. This is joint work with Nobu Kishimoto (RIMS), Slim Ibrahim (UVIC) and Rana Badreddine (UCLA).
