July 9, 2025

Room 515, Cosmology Building, NTU
Organizers:

Aim & Scope

The NCTS Interdisciplinary Distinguished Lecture series aims to introduce important research directions in sciences to the Taiwan mathematical community. And at the same time create a platform that people with different backgrounds can meet, discuss and develop interdisciplinary collaborations. Each Interdisciplinary Distinguished Lecture is designed to be a half day activity with lectures, discussions and a close up.

We are very happy to have Professor Jerry Bona to give the NCTS Interdisciplinary Distinguished Lecture. Prof. Bona received his Ph.D. from Harvard University under the guidance of Garret Birkhoff.  He has held professorships in mathematics at the University of Chicago, Penn State University, the University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Illinois at Chicago.  He has also held longer-term visiting positions at several other mathematics and applied mathematics departments, including National Taiwan University. He has worked on problems related to partial differential equations, fluid mechanics, numerical analysis, economics, and biology.

Invited Speaker

Jerry L. Bona (National Taiwan University)

Title: Water Waves in the Service of Coastal Engineering and Biology

Abstract: This lecture will discuss how water-wave theory can illuminate problems in coastal engineering. This is not so surprising.  What is more unusual is the application of water-wave theory to issues arising in the study of pulmonary hypertension.
