Title: KLS Conjecture and Brunn-Minkowski Inequality
Abstract: In this talk, we will introduce the topics covered by the instructors, Prof. Max Fathi and Prof. Dan Mikulincer, in the summer school course.
For the first part of the talk, we will discuss the famous Kannan-Lovasz-Simonovits conjecture (also known as the KLS conjecture), which asserts that for any distribution with a log-concave density, the minimum expansion is approximated by that of a halfspace, up to a universal constant factor. The main focus of the talk will be on stochastic localization, the proof technique applied in the 2017 paper by Yin Tat Lee and Santosh S. Vempala.
For the second part of the talk, we will give a brief introduction to the Brunn-Minkowski inequality and its applications. In the beginning, we will describe the different forms of it and discuss their equivalence. Next, we will outline a probabilistic proof and introduce the functional form, Prékopa-Leindler inequality. Finally, we will focus on the Johnson-Lindestrauss lemma, which describes how to construct a linear projection from high-dimensional data into a lower-dimensional space while preserving the distance structure. It also has an application to Prékopa-Leindler inequality and Gaussian concentration
